Why does Kulzer update Charisma?
Kulzer is a reliable partner to dental professionals. Our mission is to provide products and services that help our customers restore patients’ oral health in a safe and more convenient way. In doing so, we strive to exceed dentist’s expectations and to continuously improve our products. On the basis of our long‐term experience in composite technology, we don’t hesitate to make something good even better. That is why we adapted the Charisma formula by using the latest improvements in filler technology. While the personal habits for using Charisma remain unchanged, the new ceramic-reinforced formula ensures long‐lasting natural results with even more ease of application.
What has not been changed with the ceramic‐reinforced formula of Charisma?
The updated Charisma performs with the same uncomplicated convenience as always. Dentists have affirmed in a detailed prototype test: Charisma with the ceramic‐reinforced formula offers the same well‐known handling properties as its antecessor formula. It offers easy and fast modelling through its creamy consistency as well as excellent finishing and polishing properties.
What does ceramic‐reinforced formula mean?
The updated formula of Charisma is the first composite on the dental market to contain feldspar. Feldspar is commonly used in glassmaking and ceramics. In dental ceramics, particularly pure feldspar gives a fine structure to the material, making it very similar to the natural tooth. That is why this material reinforces our filler system and adds up to a number of improvements: The ceramic‐reinforced Charisma formula facilitates single‐shade layering techniques as it makes shade selection and match more convenient. Furthermore, those fillers improve the composite’s physical properties.
Which studies are available for Charisma?
The development of the ceramic‐reinforced formula was based on our long‐term clinical experience with Charisma. Various internal and external physical tests have been conducted to ensure the same high quality and reliability for which its antecedent is famous. External studies are e.g. available from the Universities in Mainz and Munich.
Are there any differences in curing times and maximum layer thickness between the Charisma shades?
Yes! 20 seconds is adequate for setting the standard VITA shades (A1, A2, A3, A3.5, A4, B1, B2, B3, C2, C3, C4, D3) that can be cured in maximum layers of 2 mm. All opaque shades (OA2, OA3, OA3.5) must be cured for 40 seconds and should not exceed layers of 1 mm thickness. The reason behind this is the difference in shade density and the enhanced opacity.
Which opaque shades would you recommend to use in combination with the available VITA shades?
Charisma is ideally suited for easy single‐shade layering techniques. However, if a base layer of an opaque shade is necessary, we recommend the use of the following combinations: all bright VITA shades A1, A2, B1, B2 and C2 should be used in combination with OA2. OA3 is the ideal choice when using A3, B3, C3 or D3. All dark VITA shades (A3.5, A4, C4) require a base layer of OA3.5 for ideal results.
Is Charisma radiopaque?
Yes, Charisma is visible on X‐rays and ensures a safe and reliable diagnosis.
Which monomer matrix is used for Charisma?
Charisma is based on a Bis‐GMA matrix.
What fillers are used for Charisma?
Charisma contains approximately 61% inorganic filler by volume and a particle size of 0.005 – 10 μm. The fillers used are Barium Aluminium Fluoride glass, Feldspar and pre‐polymerized fillers.
Why is the Charisma Shade Guide special?
The shade guide consists of the Charisma original material and not acrylic. This means the colour fidelity between the shade taken and the restoration are identical which results in easy shade selection and shade matching.
Which composite would you recommend using for more sophisticated cases?
Charisma is ideal for easy single‐shade layering techniques. However, for more sophisticated cases that require multi‐layering techniques we recommend our comprehensive range of Venus composites such as Venus Diamond or Venus Pearl. Both nano‐hybrid composites, Venus Diamond and Venus Pearl, exceed the previous boundaries of aesthetics, quality and performance. Their excellent physical properties create long‐lasting, highly aesthetically pleasing restorations with a permanent, natural lustre. Both composites offer a stable, minimally adhesive consistency and extended working time and are perfect to model and polish. Select the consistency according to your preference and indication: Venus Diamond for a firm consistency and Venus Pearl for a creamy consistency.
Which composites would you recommend for use with bleached teeth?
Venus Diamond and Venus Pearl both offer a range of bleach shades to cover all customer requirements.
Which bonding systems do you recommend for use with Charisma?
All of them! Charisma is compatible with all (meth)acrylate‐based bonding systems. In addition to that, our latest bonding iBOND Universal is a universal adhesive for any bonding technique, compatible to self‐, dual‐ and light cure materials, for bonding of direct and indirect restorations as well as intra‐oral repairs showing an instant bonding success.
Which curing lights are suitable for Charisma?
Commercially available halogen or LED curing lights are suitable for Charisma. Blue‐light units such as the Translux light‐curing units should provide a wavelength maximum of 460–470 nm and a light output of 600–1550 mW/cm².
Which flowable would you recommend for use with Charisma?
Charisma is compatible with all common flowables such as Charisma Flow or Venus Diamond Flow. The low‐viscous flowable Charisma Flow is ideally suited for fissure sealing, cavity lining and small repairs. In contrast to that, Venus Diamond Flow is a more medium‐ to high‐viscous flowable which makes it the ideal choice for class V or minimal‐invasive class III cavities, for example.
Why is Charisma Flow preferred as a cavity liner for use during composite filling therapy?
Charisma Flow flows into cavities homogeneously and densely. It forms a bath-shaped floor in the cavity with margins which taper upwards and toward the cavity walls. This rounded shape forms a dense seal with the bonding agent and composite used for filling the cavity completely.
